panoramas
360° virtual reality and static panoramas.
Below are most of my virtual reality panoramas. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did making them.
You will need the free Quicktime player to view these VR panoramas (~26mB download). Tip: Select the option without iTunes. Also, you can enter a false email address if you are so inclined.
Dialup users may want to download Quicktime 6.5.2 - an older version - as it's only 12mB (and not 23mB as the webpage states).
For your convenience, I have rendered several qualities of each panorama:
Low - under 500kB;
Medium - under 2mB;
Full - 3mB to 6mB (explanation).
This entire collection of virtual reality panoramas are linked together; you could start at Mansfield, jump over to The Paps then hop over the lake to The Pines for example.
I have taken care in perfecting the implementation of this technology. The background website code has been developed to keep track of which panorama you have come from, and subsequently keeps you pointed in the right direction in order to not disorient you; each panorama knows the precise direction of it's neighbouring (linked) panoramas, and tells the browser to be pointed 180° from the place it came from.
Cookies have been utilised to achieve this. If cookies are not enabled, panoramas will default to low quality beyond the first one.

Due to the sheer height and distance of this vista, I shot it fully zoomed in to capture as much detail as possible.

Ahh, this image captures two of my favourite things; motorbike riding and the natural beauty of our landscape. My brother and I are seen here appreciating the view.
As you will see from the caption, this panorama was too good to not give away - I presented it to my mother as a birthday present.
Taken at The Pines in Spring of 2005, this panorama shows Lake Eildon at its best.
